Old versions stop receiving security updates, get slower and stop working with new modules, payment providers or systems.
Minor or major upgrade
Minor updates happen regularly as part of support. Moving to a new major version (for example PrestaShop 1.7 to 8 or 9) is a project: theme, modules and integrations all need checking.
How we do it safely
Backup, a test on a copy of the site (staging), checks of the key flows (cart, payment, ERP), then rollout to the live site.
